The video also covers subjects ranging from the amphibian's ability to survive in both arctic and desert climates to the human practice of toad licking. Over the thirty minute running-time, we learn that each step of growth from tadpole to frog essentially echoes millions of years of evolution, for the same genetic material that allowed frogs to first crawl on land eventually made birds, reptiles, mammals and even humans. In the winter of 2003-2004 Prof. Claes Andrén, scientist and filmmaker, and Ulf Jonasson, filmmaker and wildlife expert, set out on an expedition deep into the largely unexplored mountain rain forest of Vietnam to study and film snakes, lizard s and frogs. Renowned expert of Asian amphibians and reptiles, Dr. Nikolai Orlov from Russia, and Vietnamese researcher, Dr. Ho Thu Cuc, were also part of the team. The expedition took place during the monsoon season when amphibians and reptiles are most active. But the difficult weather destroyed cameras and turned quiet streams into wild cascades. In spite of all the difficulties the expedition was very successful. Minority people guided us through pristine rain forests, showing us 1000 year old giant trees and an astonishing diversity of amphibians, reptiles and fascinating insects. More than 15 new species of frogs, lizards and snakes were discovered and are now awaiting scientific names and descriptions.
