In the winter of 2003-2004 Prof. Claes Andrén, scientist and filmmaker, and Ulf Jonasson, filmmaker and wildlife expert, set out on an expedition deep into the largely unexplored mountain rain forest of Vietnam to study and film snakes, lizard s and frogs. Renowned expert of Asian amphibians and reptiles, Dr. Nikolai Orlov from Russia, and Vietnamese researcher, Dr. Ho Thu Cuc, were also part of the team. The expedition took place during the monsoon season when amphibians and reptiles are most active. But the difficult weather destroyed cameras and turned quiet streams into wild cascades. In spite of all the difficulties the expedition was very successful. Minority people guided us through pristine rain forests, showing us 1000 year old giant trees and an astonishing diversity of amphibians, reptiles and fascinating insects. More than 15 new species of frogs, lizards and snakes were discovered and are now awaiting scientific names and descriptions. An intriguing variety of spectacular plants and animals filmed in their extreme habitats, some of them revealed to the world for the first time, implore us to save the last remaining fragments of the world´s rain forests.
